It’s true! Your morning can set the tone for your entire day. The more frazzled you are before arriving at work, the more manic your day in the office will be. And regardless of your morning needs, you can establish a routine that can work for you, your entire family, and your career. Here are some better ways to start your day to increase your productivity both at work and at home.

Start Before Bed.
Having a better morning really starts at bedtime. Create a routine that is conducive to a good night’s sleep. Try to avoid technology and don’t eat anything late at night. Establish a bedtime and stick to it every night to help you get the right amount of sleep each night. Create a comfortable environment that will help you get more restful sleep.

Get Plenty of Sleep.
To that end, make sure that you’re getting plenty of sleep every night. Our culture has created a reward system for people who “burn the midnight oil,” or are “night owls.” But, in truth, our bodies aren’t designed to run on too little sleep. You really need about eight hours a night to function best during the day, even if you think you don’t.

Don’t Snooze.
That alarm clock has the best feature, right? You can just reach right over while you’re still snug in bed and hit a button that will give you about 10 extra minutes. Well, it can be the worst enemy for someone who wants to be productive in the morning. Don’t snooze. Instead, put your alarm clock on the other side of your room so you have to get out of bed to turn it off. This will force you to get up and get moving.

Get Physical.
Start out the day with physical exercise. Many workers complain that they simply don’t have time to exercise, but the trick is to build that time into your morning routine. Get up, go for a walk or ride your bike or go to the gym. Whatever you can do to be active first thing in the morning will help you be more energized throughout the day.

Eat Well.
Don’t skip breakfast either. A good, nutritious breakfast is essential to get your brain going for the day. Try to avoid sweet and carby breakfast treats like pastries or even most cereals. Instead, opt for some protein like eggs or just egg whites and fruits and vegetables. Coffee is fine in the morning to help with that caffeine boost, but don’t rely on it solely to give you the daily energy you need.
